Peter has a deep knowledge of both traditional and modern rigging and is often instructed to consult on rigging changes and modifications to a wide variety of rig designs and yacht types. Rig sizing can also be undertaken to accommodate modifications or system changes.
Any major refit, repair or newbuild project will involve a pre-contract, interim and completion stage. During each of these stages, a surveyor can be used to act on behalf of the owner as an independent voice, firstly ensuring the appointed boatyard is suitably equipped and able to carry out all works to specification and the owner's requirements.Interim inspections are then necessary during the course of the works to ensure appropriate standards are maintained and to assist with any inevitable head-scratching moments that may occur. During each inspection, photographs are taken, and current progress is noted, following which a progress report will be submitted along with any relevant information referencing finances.On completion of each stage and upon final completion, the vessel and all onboard systems are inspected and tested. This will generally include sea trials to ensure specifications are met and all systems are installed and calibrated accordingly. Following the final inspection and sea trials, a completion report will be compiled, listing any remaining "snags" to be resolved before the handover to the client.
Accompanied viewings are an excellent way for a buyer to view one or more vessels in the company of a surveyor with a keen eye. This helps to relieve the buyer during the viewing as the surveyor can be busy establishing the overall condition and level of care that has been given to the vessel, leaving the buyer to digest the remaining issues such as comfort and suitability.If you prefer, Peter is happy to carry out preliminary viewings on behalf of the client. This is often useful when multiple boats are viewed within a busy schedule.
